Ookla posts analysis of UK 5G performance in H1 2021

An Ookla analysis covering H1 2021 has found that 5G networks in the UK are getting faster and boosting consumer sentiment.

Early in the deployment of any new mobile network generation, it’s not clear to the wider public of the benefits. This is especially true as go-to metrics like download speeds aren’t initially as pronounced as often expected. Ookla analysis finds Starlink faster than the UK’s fixed broadband

Ookla’s latest analysis finds that Starlink’s median download speed is much faster than the UK’s fixed broadband average.

The analysis uses Speedtest data from Q2 2021 and found the average Starlink download speed to be 108.30 Mbps, over double the UK’s fixed broadband average of 50.14 Mbps.

Starlink’s lead narrowed in upload speed where it posted an average of 15.64 Mbps, compared to the UK’s fixed broadband of 14.76 Mbps.

Ookla publishes analysis of European mobile roaming speeds over lockdown

The network testing experts at Ookla have published an analysis of European mobile roaming speeds over a year defined by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Existing vaccines are, fortunately, effective against the ‘Delta’ variant which is spreading rapidly in countries like the UK. However, the reduced efficacy – especially after just one dose – has already set back the country’s lifting of remaining restrictions by four weeks.
