How 5G URLLC and edge computing can make smart factories smarter

5G has brought a lot of hopes and dreams to the telecommunications industry, promising communication and digital service providers a way to open up new revenue streams and monetization models. Yet, for most CSPs, this hasn’t come to fruition.

Now, this can change. Thanks to 5G URLLC and edge computing, telecoms can become the main enablers for manufacturing automation based on 5G networks with the use of intent-driven orchestration, realizing the smart factory...

Vodafone partners with Ericsson for on-demand 5G network slicing

Vodafone and Ericsson have partnered up to deliver the UK’s first on-demand 5G network slicing.

Network slicing enables multiple virtual network “slices” to be created. These slices operate across the same physical network but are isolated from other traffic to ensure high performance for specific use cases.

Andrea Dona, Chief Network Officer at Vodafone UK, said:

“Network slicing is an incredibly valuable step forward. By segmenting our network, and...

Juniper Research: 5G will account for 77% of operator revenue by 2026

Analysts from Juniper Research forecast that 5G will account for 77 percent of global operator revenues by 2026.

The analysts found that 5G service revenue will reach $600 billion by 2026.

Despite the ongoing chip shortage, Juniper claims that 5G adoption has been driven by strong uptake of capable devices and “attractive” subscription pricing models.

Cisco and DISH establish ‘multi-layered’ agreement to accelerate 5G services deployment

Cisco and DISH Wireless have established a “multi-layered” agreement to accelerate the deployment of 5G services across the US.

The partners will build what they’re calling the first “smart” 5G network in the US.

In practice, DISH will be able to provide slices of its open network to meet the specific needs of various industry verticals. Cisco will help DISH with delivering a network that will predict, self-heal, and self-optimise with closed-loop automation...

AT&T, Ericsson, and Wevr create groundbreaking 5G VR experience

AT&T, Ericsson, and Wevr have partnered up to create the first multi-user, location-based, virtual reality experience using 5G.

Today’s high-end VR experiences require physically tethering a headset to a powerful computer. This means the upfront entry cost is high while tethering limits the user’s freedom and enjoyment.

The partners demonstrated how to overcome these issues using the high speeds and low latency of 5G.

“5G offers the high peak rates...
