Russian space agency refuses to launch OneWeb satellites

Russian space agency Roscosmos has said that it won’t launch British OneWeb satellites, as was planned on Friday.

A Soyuz rocket carrying 36 of OneWeb’s satellites was due to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Friday. Following the global backlash against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that launch is now in question.

Ericsson says its 5G rollout will create 800 British jobs by 2022

During a time when unemployment figures are at record highs, it’s heartening to hear Ericsson’s job creation expectations.

Swedish telecoms vendor Ericsson predicts that its 5G rollout will create an additional 800 jobs in the UK over the next couple of years.

Digital Infrastructure Minister Matt Warman said:

"I welcome this investment in the UK by Ericsson which will create hundreds of skilled jobs across the country and accelerate the nationwide rollout...

BT selects Nokia to replace Huawei for EE’s 5G network

BT has struck a deal with Nokia to replace Huawei’s equipment for EE’s 5G in addition to its previous generation networks.

The UK’s largest telecoms operator acquired EE for £12.5 billion in 2016. EE has used Huawei’s equipment in its 2G and 4G networks while BT itself has maintained a strong relationship with the Chinese vendor since 2005 for its broadband network.
